Ávila is a city on the Castilian plateau encircled by the best-preserved medieval walls in Spain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 12th-edition half marathon starts at the Cuatro Postes viewpoint, famous for its classic view of the walled city, passes the Encarnación convent and the San José district, and finishes at the Lienzo Norte conference centre. Sitting above 1,100 metres, the city offers cool mountain air and a moderately hilly course. The race has traditionally drawn strong East African runners.
