The Ayia Napa Half Marathon is held in late December, when Cyprus is still mild while the rest of Europe is deep in winter — a perfect way to close the season in the sun. Start and finish are at the Nissi Beach Resort, with a half marathon, 10 km and 5 km on offer. The course is fast and almost flat: short seaside laps, with the half adding an extra loop out to Ayia Napa Marina and back. It is an intimate race with a holiday feel, and the sea is just steps from the finish line. Ayia Napa is more than nightlife: Cape Greco's sea caves, the old monastery in the town centre and some of the island's best beaches are all close by.
