The Bietigheimer Silvesterlauf is one of southern Germany's most popular New Year's Eve races. On 31 December around 4,000 runners cover two loops (about 10.5 km) through the picturesque half-timbered old town of Bietigheim-Bissingen and along the Enz river. It draws elite athletes and recreational runners alike, and the capped field usually sells out well in advance. A great way to close the running year in an atmospheric Swabian town near Stuttgart.
