The TotalEnergies Bilbao Night Running Fest (formerly the Bilbao Night Marathon) is a spectacle unique in Europe — starting at 7pm on the esplanade of San Mamés stadium and finishing right in front of the iconic Guggenheim Museum. Runners choose between the 21K half marathon or the 10K 'Pirate Race,' tracing a route through the historic centre and along the Nervión riverbank, lit up by thousands of lights. The race is accompanied by fireworks, live music and a festive finish-line party with food and drinks — the vibe leans more toward urban carnival than pure racing, which is why some serious runners note it isn't the fastest course around. Even so, the 2025 edition drew more than 20,000 participants from 74 countries, making it one of Spain's biggest night races. The Basque Country's mild autumn weather and the sheer spectacle of the route more than make up for its modest elevation changes.

The atmosphere is incredible — the illuminated city, music and fireworks create an energy that gets you from the first steps; this isn't a race for a fast time, it's a race for the experience.
