The Bitburger 0,0% Silvesterlauf Trier is one of Germany's best-known New Year's Eve races and a traditional international showcase for elite end-of-year running. On 31 December thousands of amateurs and world-class stars start from the Hauptmarkt in the heart of Trier — Germany's oldest city, home to the Roman Porta Nigra and amphitheatre. The main distance is 5 km through the historic centre, alongside elite and youth races. The mood is festive and wintry, with crowds packing the medieval streets.
