Blodomloppet is a Swedish series of weekday evening races promoting blood donation, and in Stockholm it is held in early summer at Djurgårdsbrunn. You can choose 5 or 10 km, race for a time in the timed classes or simply walk at your own pace, while children have their own 'Lilla Blodomloppet'. The route runs across green Djurgården, along waterside paths, meadows and oak groves of the island park, with hardly any climbing. Volunteers from the IFK Lidingö club run the event, so it feels more like a club gathering than a mass race, and the finish turns into the traditional picnic. Stockholm offers Gamla Stan, the Vasa Museum, Skansen and archipelago islands just a ferry ride away.
An easy run with a local club the day before the race — the best way to shake out the legs and meet the city.
