The Blokhus Marathon is held in summer on one of Denmark's widest beaches: the packed sand by the North Sea is so firm that cars drive on it, and it runs almost like a road. Distances range from 5 km to the marathon, with wind and wide-open space as the signature features. Blokhus is a classic Danish resort with white dunes, summer cottages and sand sculptures; Fårup Sommerland amusement park is nearby.
