Brasov Marathon is one of Romania's longest-running mountain-running festivals, with more than a dozen editions behind it, spread over several days in late May or early June. Runners choose from a roughly 9 km trail race, a half marathon, a marathon and a 70 km ultra, plus races for teenagers, children and athletes with disabilities. The ultra starts in Piața Sfatului and links four summits — Tâmpa, Postăvarul, Bunloc and Piatra Mare (1,843 m) — with technical sections, steep climbs and fast descents through the Seven Ladders Canyon. It is proper mountain running with thousands of metres of climbing, and the city always sits right at your feet. Brașov itself offers a medieval centre with the Black Church, a cable car up Tâmpa, and Bran Castle just half an hour away.
