The Sunrise Marathon Brno is an unusual marathon held since 2021 in June, around the summer solstice, starting right at sunrise — at 4:49am in 2024. Start and finish are at the Olympiacentrum sports complex in Modřice near Brno; the marathon is five laps of 8.3 km, and there is also a half. The course is flat, on asphalt and compacted surfaces, and largely shaded, so running in the morning cool is a pleasure. Greeting the dawn on the run and finishing as the city wakes up is the magic of this race. Brno offers Špilberk Castle, the UNESCO-listed Villa Tugendhat, the ossuary at St James's Church and Moravian wines.
