CCC is one of the headline races of UTMB Mont-Blanc week in late August and the 100K final of the UTMB World Series — entry requires Running Stones or elite qualification. It starts at 9 am in Courmayeur and climbs almost immediately to 2,500 m, with views of Mont Blanc and the Grandes Jorasses; then comes the Grand Col Ferret into Switzerland, aid stations at La Fouly, Champex and Trient, a return to France via Vallorcine and a final climb before the Chamonix finish. It is 108 km and 6,200 m of climbing with a 28-hour cut-off, and the Chamonix finish chute is one of the most emotional places in trail running. That week Chamonix is the world capital of trail, with an expo, huge crowds and the Aiguille du Midi above.
