The Christmas Run is a December race through central Lausanne that began in 2006 as the Midnight Run and took its current name in 2015, usually drawing about 4,000 people. Short laps through the festive streets of the centre offer 4.6 and 7 km races for adults, mixed relays, a corporate challenge, kids' races and special categories for runners dressed as Santa, and costumes are the rule rather than the exception. It is a family celebration rather than a race against the clock, and each year it supports a different charity. In December Lausanne has its Bô Noël Christmas market and the lights of the old town and cathedral, and in summer the Ouchy waterfront and the Lavaux vineyards.
