The Clonakilty Waterfront Marathon is an annual running festival in Clonakilty, now well over a decade old, with a marathon, half marathon and 10K. Start and finish are on the town's waterfront, and the routes follow the coast with views over Clonakilty Bay, past Inchydoney Beach, the lighthouse at Galley Head and the villages of Ardfield and Rathbarry, on quiet, rolling country roads. Locals turn out to cheer, timing is by chip, and finishers are treated to refreshments and a medal ceremony. Clonakilty is one of Ireland's most charming towns — home of the famous black pudding, with live-music pubs and the sandy beaches of West Cork.
