The Coast to Coast Race is one of Greece's most unusual half marathons: every March runners cross Crete at its narrowest point. The start is at Pachia Ammos on the north coast, by the Aegean, and the finish is in Minos Park in Ierapetra on the Libyan Sea, with a straight route through the valley between two mountain ranges. Alongside the half there is a 5 km for runners and walkers, a family race and a 1 km kids' race, making it a true family event. Running from one sea to another in a couple of hours is something you don't forget. Ierapetra calls itself Europe's southernmost town: the Venetian Kales fortress, a seafront lined with tavernas, and nearby Chrysi island with its cedar forest and turquoise water.
