The Generali Köln Marathon, in early October, is one of Germany's biggest: start in Deutz on the right bank of the Rhine, a course through all the city's districts and a finish by Cologne Cathedral. Cologne is famous for its crowds — carnival tradition turns the route into one long party with bands. Afterwards: the cathedral (UNESCO), the Museum Ludwig, the Chocolate Museum and Kölsch beer in old-town brewhouses.
