The Cork City Marathon is southern Ireland's biggest running event, held in late May or early June; in 2026 a record 12,300 runners took on the marathon, half and 10K, and for 2027 entries go to a ballot for the first time ever. Start and finish have moved to Grand Parade and South Mall in the very heart of the city, and the course runs along the River Lee quays and through Cork's neighbourhoods. Locals line the streets, music plays, and the whole city turns into one big running festival for the day. Cork means the English Market, the Shandon Bells, St Fin Barre's Cathedral, a great food scene and easy trips to Cobh and Blarney Castle.
