Continental Corrida de São João

The Continental Corrida de São João is a June 10 km tied to the region's biggest festival, the feast of St John; it ran in Porto for its first seven years and in 2018 crossed the Douro to Vila Nova de Gaia. The 2026 edition drew a record 5,500+ participants, and non-runners can join a 7 km walk. The course follows Avenida Beira Mar along the Atlantic, with views of the Douro mouth and the Arrábida bridge, finishing in the pedestrian zone of Canidelo. Gaia is home to the riverside port-wine lodges, a cable car and the view of Porto's Ribeira from the Dom Luís I bridge — and on São João night the whole city parties with plastic hammers and grilled sardines.
