The Derthona Half Marathon takes place in early March in Tortona, ancient Dertona, in Piedmont; its fifth edition in 2026 set a record of more than 1,000 entries. Besides the half there is the Derthona TEN and an unusual 32 km — perfect as a long run before a spring marathon. The half marathon course runs through the streets of Tortona and neighbouring Viguzzolo and is built for PBs, with course records falling recently; the half and 10 km host FIDAL championship races. The tagline says it all: 'a half marathon in the city of the lion'. Tortona is the gateway to the Colli Tortonesi wine hills and their white Timorasso, and nearby Volpedo is the hometown of the painter of 'The Fourth Estate'.
