The Media Maratón Virgen de las Cruces runs through Don Benito, a town in Badajoz province at the heart of Extremadura's fertile Vegas Altas farming region. It is organized by Club Maratón Vegas Altas with the town council. The course starts and finishes at Plaza de España, covering about 4.5 km through the historic centre before heading out on the Las Cruces path and circling the hermitage of the same name. A companion 7K, "La Velá," runs alongside it.
