The Donegal Half Marathon has been held in Letterkenny since 2014, on a late-August Sunday; in 2024 it drew almost 600 entries. The course takes in the town and the rolling roads of north-west Ireland, and the race has served as a county championship event. Alongside the half there's a family run and children's races, so it's a day out for everyone. Donegal is wild country: Glenveagh National Park and its castle, the Slieve League cliffs, empty beaches and the roads of the Wild Atlantic Way.
