The Sparkassen Phoenix Halbmarathon is an autumn half, 10 km and 5 km in Dortmund around Phoenix-See, a lake created on the site of a former steelworks. The flat waterside course symbolises how the Ruhr turned its industrial past into leisure spaces. Dortmund has the German Football Museum, the Signal Iduna Park stadium and the Dortmunder U cultural centre.
