The Irish Life Dublin Half Marathon is held in September as the finale of the Dublin Race Series, after the Fingal 10K and the Frank Duffy 10 Mile, and places go very fast. Almost the entire course is inside Phoenix Park, one of Europe's largest city parks, on wide avenues with long straights and gentle undulations. Pacers cover 1:30 to 2:30, and the field is full of club runners and people sharpening up for the October marathon. Dublin offers Trinity College and the Book of Kells, Temple Bar, the Guinness Storehouse and walks along the Liffey — and in the park itself you may spot the resident herd of deer.
An easy run with a local club the day before the race — the best way to shake out the legs and meet the city.
