Dwars door Mechelen ('Across Mechelen') is a city run that has returned after a pause and again draws thousands of runners in late September. The mass-participation 6 and 10 km routes wind through the compact historic centre past the towering St Rumbold's Cathedral tower (a UNESCO site) and the pretty Dijle quays; the revamped course even runs through a city tunnel. Its flat profile and urban setting make the 10 km an excellent, accessible option for running tourists.
