The EDP Lisbon Marathon is an October running weekend and part of the European Marathon Classics: the marathon runs on Saturday, the half marathon and 8 km on Sunday, with the marathon capped at 15,000 runners. It starts on the coast at Carcavelos and follows the Atlantic and then the Tagus estuary past Belém's tower and Jerónimos Monastery towards the city centre. The finish is on the grand Praça do Comércio, open to the river, with grandstands and crowds. Lisbon means hills and tram 28, azulejo tiles, Alfama viewpoints, pastéis de nata in Belém and fado at night.
