The TOYOTA EKO Półmaraton Wałbrzych takes place in early September and stands out for its setting: start and finish are at Stara Kopalnia, a former coal mine turned science and art centre. The town sits in a valley ringed by the Wałbrzych Mountains, so the certified course has serious climbs — a test of fitness rather than a PB hunt. Besides the half there is a 10 km race and kids' races the day before. The atmosphere is epic and post-industrial, with headframes and brick halls all around. Nearby: Książ Castle, Poland's third largest, underground mine tours and the lookout tower on Borowa.
