Espoo Rantamaraton is a big two-day running festival in mid-September. There's something for every level: marathon, half marathon, 10 km and 5 km, a relaxed 5 km shore walk and the children's Espoo Minimarathon. The event is based at the Otaniemi university campus with Aalto University as a partner; ‘ranta’ means shore in Finnish, and the idea is running by the water. The atmosphere is friendly, with plenty of company teams and students. Espoo is Finland's second-largest city: Alvar Aalto's modernist Otaniemi campus, the EMMA modern art museum and Nuuksio National Park.
