The Vías Verdes Marathon starts in the historic center of Girona and follows the old Carrilet railway line — a route that is roughly 80% compact dirt track and 20% asphalt. The largely downhill course winds through rural Catalan towns including Quart, Llambilles, Cassà de la Selva, Llagostera, and Castell d'Aro before finishing by the sea in Platja d'Aro. With light traffic, tree shade for long stretches, and a soft running surface, the race has become popular with runners chasing a personal best away from urban noise. Distances ranging from 10K to the full marathon make it an accessible trip for runners of every level.
