Göteborgsvarvet has been run since 1980 and holds the title of the world's largest half marathon; every May the whole of Gothenburg takes to the streets, and places for 2027 sold out faster than ever. The race starts and finishes by Slottsskogen park, crosses the Göta älv river on high bridges including the Älvsborg Bridge, loops over Hisingen and returns through the city centre. The bridge climbs make it no pushover, but hundreds of thousands of spectators and music along the route carry runners to the finish. All surplus goes to local sports clubs, and women make up nearly half of the 2027 field. Gothenburg means cafés in Haga, the Liseberg amusement park, seafood at the Feskekôrka fish market and archipelago islands reached by city ferries.
