The Grand Prix von Bern is the May Saturday when the Swiss capital is given over to running: in 2026 entries hit a record 37,870, and the main race also attracts world-class elite runners. The 10-mile (16.1 km) course passes through the UNESCO-listed old town, the Zytglogge clock tower, Bern Cathedral and the bear park, then along the Aare, with noticeable climbs you will remember. For those not ready for 16 km there is the 4.7 km Altstadt-GP, plus a 1.6 km course for schoolchildren, and bands and big crowds line the route. Bern means old-town arcades, the Rose Garden overlooking the rooftops, the Zentrum Paul Klee and summer floats down the Aare.
