The Regeneron Great Limerick Run takes place on the first weekend of May, with a marathon (also as a relay), half marathon, 10K, 6-mile race and Saturday kids' races. The fast, mostly flat course runs through Limerick city centre, the University of Limerick campus and along the River Shannon past Thomond Park rugby stadium, finishing on O'Connell Street. Music zones and huge crowds give it a real festival feel — it's one of the country's biggest mass-participation events. In Limerick, see King John's Castle on the Shannon and the Saturday Milk Market, with Bunratty Castle & Folk Park just outside town.
