The AJ Bell Great Manchester Run has been held in late May since 2003; in 2026 a record 38,000 runners sold out both the 10K and the half, with junior races at the Etihad Campus the day before. The routes run through central Manchester past its landmarks and finish on Deansgate to roaring crowds. A flat city course, huge support and elite athletes sharing the road with first-timers make it a true festival. Manchester has the Northern Quarter's cafés and vintage shops, the Science and Industry Museum, Old Trafford and the Etihad, and the John Rylands Library.
