The Greifenseelauf is a September race around Lake Greifensee in Uster and one of the most popular autumn half marathons in the Zurich region. It starts in Niederuster, and the half-marathon course loops the whole lake through forests, fields and reed beds in the protected shoreline area, on a flat, fast profile made for personal bests. Besides the half there is a relay, a 10 km, kids' races, walking and a family category, so the whole town turns out by the lake. The Greifensee is a quiet lake with a tiny medieval town and castle on its shore, and Zurich, with its old town, lakefront and museums, is about 20 minutes away by train.
