Grete Waitz-løpet is a spring 5 km race for women in Oslo, named after Grete Waitz, one of the greatest runners in history, who won the New York City Marathon nine times and became the first women's marathon world champion. The race is a celebration of women's running: some race for a time, others walk with friends, mothers run with daughters, and for many it is their first race ever. Five kilometres through the streets and parks of the Norwegian capital, cheered on by spectators, is within reach for any fitness level. The atmosphere is warm, supportive and very Norwegian in spirit. Oslo offers the Opera House, the Munch Museum, Vigeland sculpture park, Akershus Fortress and the Aker Brygge waterfront.
An easy run with a local club the day before the race — the best way to shake out the legs and meet the city.
