The Groet uit Schoorl Run has been held in early February for over 45 years. The 10, 21.1 and 30 km routes wind through the forests and dunes of Schoorl — the highest in the Netherlands — and through the village centres of Groet, Hargen and Schoorl; most of it is paved, but you feel the hills. The longer distances sell out fast and spectators line the route. Runners can donate to the state forestry service for dune restoration. The artists' village of Bergen and North Sea beaches are nearby; Alkmaar is 15 minutes away.
