The Grossglockner Mountain Run is a summer mountain race in the Hohe Tauern National Park, and in 2026 it was a stage of the WMRA Mountain Running World Cup. It covers just 13.3 km but climbs about 1,300 m. From the village of Heiligenblut the course rises through forest past waterfalls onto alpine meadows, opens up a view of the Pasterze glacier, and ends with the legendary 522 steps up to the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe. World-class athletes, including top Kenyan mountain runners, race here, and amateurs get one of the most spectacular courses in the Alps. Heiligenblut, with its slender pilgrimage church, sits at the foot of the Grossglockner, Austria's highest peak, and the Grossglockner High Alpine Road is one of Europe's great scenic drives.
