The Grossglockner Ultra-Trail is Austria's signature high-alpine trail race, held in late July in the Zell am See-Kaprun region; the 2027 festival runs from 22 to 25 July. The flagship 110 km route, with about 6,500 m of climbing, starts in Kaprun on Friday at 10 p.m. and runs through the night, alongside the 84 km Osttirol Trail, the 57 km Grossglockner Trail, the 35 km Weißsee Gletscherwelt Trail and the 16 km Kaprun Scenic Trail. Most of the course sits between 2,000 and 2,500 m, with stretches above 2,800 m, circling the Grossglockner, passing the Pasterze glacier and linking Kaprun, Kals am Großglockner and Heiligenblut. Kids and juniors get their own MINI GGUT. Kaprun offers the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, high-alpine reservoirs and the famous Grossglockner High Alpine Road, with the lake at Zell am See just down the valley.
