The Half Marathon Guastalla is held in September in a historic Gonzaga town in the Po valley, 30 km from Reggio Emilia, in memory of Cinzia Sandri, with proceeds going to local charities. There is a half marathon, a competitive 10 km, non-competitive 10 km and 5 km runs and a kids' race the day before. The course is flat, through the town and the surrounding Po plain. The signature touch is a medal based on Guastalla's star-shaped town plan, assembled piece by piece over three years; the race is part of the TriHalfMarathon series with Reggio Emilia and Riva del Garda, and partner Smeg hands out its iconic coffee machines and blenders as prizes. Guastalla is a Renaissance Gonzaga town with a cathedral and ducal palace, and nearby Brescello is where the Don Camillo films were shot.
