The H.C. Andersen Marathon is Odense's big running weekend in late September: marathon, half, 10 km and a short 4.2 km. The course is flat, through the centre, parks and along the Odense river, with fairy-tale characters and music along the way reminding you whose city this is. Odense offers the H.C. Andersens Hus museum, the medieval quarter, the Funen Village open-air museum and cosy cafés on Overgade.
