Helsinki City Run is Finland's largest running event, held in early May and drawing around 24,000 participants from some 110 countries. The programme includes an AIMS-certified marathon, half marathon, 5 km, a marathon relay, a kids' minimarathon and even a 63 km ‘Double’ — marathon plus half. The course winds through spring Helsinki to a finish inside the 1952 Olympic Stadium. It's organised by Finnish Athletics, with proceeds supporting young athletes, and every finisher gets a medal. Helsinki offers Suomenlinna sea fortress, Senate Square, seaside saunas and the Market Square on the harbour.
An easy run with a local club the day before the race — the best way to shake out the legs and meet the city.
