The Grodziski Półmaraton 'Słowaka' has been held every June since 2007: it began as a modest event at the Juliusz Słowacki high school — hence the name — and grew into a national race capped at 3,800 runners. The flat, certified course consists of two loops through Grodzisk Wielkopolski with a stadium finish, and many set PBs here. Its pride is the support: almost every house along the route turns out to cheer, Tour de France style. Besides the half there are 10 and 5 km races, and all finishers get a medal and a meal. Grodzisk is famous for Grodziskie, a light smoked wheat beer best tasted on a terrace by the square.
