The Hvalsø Cannonball Trail Ultra takes place in early September: 12, 25 and 50 km over hills, forests and lakes around Hvalsø, part of Skjoldungernes Land National Park, home of the legendary Danish Skjolding kings. It is organised by the local running club, so the atmosphere is warm and homely. Nearby Roskilde has its cathedral, burial place of Danish monarchs (UNESCO), and the Viking Ship Museum.
