The Ioannina Lake Run is a popular autumn race in Ioannina, capital of Epirus, circling the scenic Lake Pamvotis with its little island and views of the Pindus mountains. Beyond the long 30 km event, its mass and accessible 5 and 10 km run along the flat lakeside promenade — a beautiful, easy course for amateurs and tourists. Ioannina is known for its old castle, silverware craft and lively student scene. The race has a long history and usually falls in mid-to-late September, still warm but no longer hot.
