The Luka Koper Istrski maraton is the Slovenian coast's spring running festival; the 12th edition took place on 11–12 April 2026, and the 2027 races are planned for 10–11 April. The marathon starts at 8 a.m. in the centre of Ankaran and the shorter races in Koper: there is a marathon, half marathon, 11.2 km run, 9.2 km Nordic walk and kids' races. The flat course follows the sea between Ankaran, Koper and Izola — promenades, the port and views across the Gulf of Trieste. Spring sunshine and sea air make it a great season opener. Koper has its Venetian Tito Square and Praetorian Palace, Izola is a fishing town full of seafood restaurants, and Piran and Istria's olive groves are close by.
