Kainuu Trail is a summer trail race in the Kainuu region of eastern Finland, organised by Kainuun Rastiviikko, the team behind the famous Kainuu Orienteering Week. In 2026 it took place in late June in Hossa National Park, with distances of 10, 21, 38, 55 and 78 km — from a taster to a true ultra. The routes follow taiga trails between lakes and rocky gorges; Hossa is billed as a trail runner's paradise, and the long courses are named after local landmarks such as the Värikallio rock paintings and the Julma-Ölkky canyon. The venue moves with the Orienteering Week, so check the location each year. Kainuu is a land of bears, lakes and white nights: canoeing, hiking and wildlife watching near the eastern border.
