Kalkmineløbet is one of Europe's most unusual races: part of the course runs underground through the lit galleries of the Mønsted limestone mines near Viborg, with tens of kilometres of tunnels. Inside it is a constant 8 °C, dim and echoing; outside are the hills and forests of central Jutland. Distances range from 5 km to the marathon, plus a long 53K. Viborg with its cathedral and lakes is nearby, and thousands of bats winter in the mines.
