The Kerzerslauf is the traditional 'Swiss Season Opening' in late March; in 2026 it was held for the 48th time and still draws thousands of runners from across the country. The classic is a 15 km officially measured course through the fields and villages of the Seeland, known as 'Switzerland's vegetable garden', on flat, fast roads, alongside 10 km and 5 km races and 2.4 and 1.6 km for children and teens. It has the feel of a village fête, with food in the sports hall from early morning, spectators along the fields and free public transport to the start for entrants. Kerzers lies between Lakes Murten and Neuchâtel, close to medieval Murten and its walls, the wine villages of the Vully and the Papiliorama with its tropical butterflies.
