Kungsholmen Runt is a spring race in Stockholm that circles Kungsholmen island along the shores of Lake Mälaren. The half marathon is two laps of the island plus a loop of Rålambshovsparken, the 10 km is one lap, and children up to 13 have their own races. The first half is fast and flat with long straights by the water, while the hillier finish makes you work; the course is World Athletics-certified, and 20 kronor from every entry goes to Doctors Without Borders. Along the way you pass Stockholm City Hall, bridges and views over Riddarholmen and Södermalm. Kungsholmen is a cosy residential island with cafés and a city beach at Rålambshovsparken, and Gamla Stan and the central museums are just a short walk away.
An easy run with a local club the day before the race — the best way to shake out the legs and meet the city.
