La 21 di Reggio is held in mid-March and has become one of Italy's fastest half marathons: it holds a World Athletics Label, and many runners set PBs at recent editions. Besides the half there are competitive and non-competitive 10 km races, a 5 km, a Saturday family run and kids' races, with thousands taking part. Start and finish are in Piazza della Vittoria, and the flat course does two laps of the historic centre through the main square; there are pacers, a finisher medal and T-shirt, and food trucks at the finish. The atmosphere is a big city festival. Reggio Emilia is the birthplace of the Italian tricolour, Parmigiano Reggiano and erbazzone pie, and the Teatro Valli is worth an evening.
