La 6000D takes place in late July in La Plagne and for more than 35 years has been one of the legendary mountain races of the French Alps. The flagship is a 69 km single loop with 3,400 m of climbing: from the village of Aime in the Tarentaise valley up through forests and ski slopes to the top of the Bellecôte glacier at 3,047 m, then a long descent back. There is also a 43 km marathon, a 30 km past mountain lakes, 21 and 11 km races, kids' races and a 94 km three-race challenge. Summer La Plagne means high lakes, Mont Blanc panoramas, the 1992 Olympic bobsleigh track and Savoyard Beaufort and reblochon cheeses.
