The Montane Lakeland 50 runs on the last weekend of July alongside the 100-mile Lakeland 100 and is one of Britain's most sought-after ultras. It starts at the Dalemain Estate north of Pooley Bridge and finishes in Coniston: about 80 km and roughly 3,100 m of ascent through the valleys, passes and lakeshores of the Lake District National Park. Rocky trails, high passes and, for many, a night section make it a serious test, and the Coniston finish, shared with the 100-milers, is one big celebration. The Lakes offer Windermere and Coniston Water, Beatrix Potter's Hill Top, cosy village pubs and hikes up Scafell Pike.
