The Winter Marathon Leeuwarden takes place on a Saturday in mid-December and offers 5.5 km, 7.5 km, 10 km, 16 km, a half and a full marathon, plus kids' and team races. The course runs through and around Leeuwarden; participants get event running shirts and beanies. Leeuwarden is the capital of Friesland: the leaning Oldehove tower, the Princessehof ceramics museum and canals — and in December, a festive old town.
